Following on from yesterdays leaked image. Here’s the same iPod but in clearer conditions. We promise not to go offline this time

Update: This image has been confirmed as a fake. But we do believe yesterdays image is the real deal.

I know this may sound a little odd…but aren’t the floors in apple stores usually that type of wood? If it’s true, it could mean that the units are in store waiting to be sold already. Which is probably the case if the announcement is only a few days away.
February 24th, 2006 at 6:32 pm
I definitely would buy an ipod this huge. It looks like a new following-floating cinema display. But phatmatt, aren’t you especulating too much?

Phatmatt, you may be right. I’m seriously excited about this player. 4 days and counting…

You never know. But with this image, it seems the video ipod is more like a positive thing that it is real. Very nice
February 24th, 2006 at 7:10 pm
omg can’t wait for this to come out if it is real
February 24th, 2006 at 7:10 pm
It’s big. Looking at those floorboards (which usually are about 8″), that would make this much much bigger than any iPod to date. I’m guessing it’s a tablet, or something of the sort.
February 24th, 2006 at 7:11 pm
already bought a 5gen so i won’t have the money for this if indeed it is real.
February 24th, 2006 at 7:12 pm
Floors are the same. Just at the apple store today in GS plaza, NJ. Guy had one of these things behind the desk with a few Macbook Pros he was unpacking.
My guess, same shipment all new products came in. He’s getting the display ready.
February 24th, 2006 at 7:15 pm
Looks real to me, just hope it comes out on 28th not April 1st
February 24th, 2006 at 7:30 pm
And there’s still no measure for scale. There also seems to be no control scheme. It honestly looks like someone ripped off the lcd monitor of a G4 iMac and called it “The New iPod”
February 24th, 2006 at 7:44 pm
If that’s a typical wood floor, that thing is a lot bigger than an iPod. I haven’t seen too many wood floors using pieces less than 2″ wide, which would put that screen at somewhere around 10″ x 5″.
February 24th, 2006 at 7:51 pm
How wide are standard floor panels? Even at 2″ it looks to me like that unit could be more of a 4×6 format.
Anybody remember a rumor a while back about a little 4×6 white enclosure with some ports on the side? Like a little tablet pc or something?
February 24th, 2006 at 7:53 pm
I’d say it look 4.5 x 8 when I saw it. Not to sound like everyone else, but I was far away.
February 24th, 2006 at 8:00 pm
Oh god, it’s the same table…
http://flickr.com/photos/modrak/103891033/
February 24th, 2006 at 8:19 pm
It’s simple. If Apple threatens legal action to take the picture down, then it’s real. If they don’t, then it’s fake.
February 24th, 2006 at 8:20 pm
All good points about the wood flooring. I have my doubts now that this is an iPod. It could very well be a tablet. But if it is, it seems really dumb to use the same acrylic face that iPods use. Of course, I’m assuming that the tablet would be pen based. Maybe not though.
Time to check lumberliquidators.com and see if we can get a match on that flooring.
Maybe then we can figure out the dimensions.
February 24th, 2006 at 8:32 pm
it’s impossible about the floors. no store would have them yet… back of house team members would only be able (possibly if theres a slip up) to see them on the In-Transit lists. Not only that.. the back of house doesn’t have floors like that. the photographer would have to take it out of packaging and move it into the front of the store, snap a picture, and then take it into the back again.
think again.
February 24th, 2006 at 8:43 pm
The picture could have been taken on a butcher block countertop instead of the floor. Not sure of the scale though, I don’t have a countertop like that.
February 24th, 2006 at 8:50 pm
looks like an old cinema display
February 24th, 2006 at 8:56 pm
A 2×4 (obviously not the same as a floor panel) can be 1 1/2″ wide after “dressed”.
Sure makes it look like approx 4×6″ size.
February 24th, 2006 at 8:57 pm
Don’t know about the iPod itself, but the shadow is Photoshoped.
February 24th, 2006 at 9:01 pm
Show me an Apple product without an Apple logo, and I’ll show you…
A Fake
February 24th, 2006 at 9:07 pm
They don’t come any bigger? Because it’s small.
February 24th, 2006 at 9:09 pm
I do actually believe that this is what’s comming, but think about it. Wouldnt there be an Apple logo somewhere? I guess it’s not necesary. Hurry up 28th!
February 24th, 2006 at 9:18 pm
It *could* be real, but it would have been far more useful to see the back or sides with labels and ports and such, wouldn’t it? Which makes me think this may be a hoax.
February 24th, 2006 at 9:19 pm
Hey Matts,
Can You please ellaborate on your previous comment about your visit to the Apple store? I live by the Garden State Plaza… can I go there and catch a glimpse? Where did you see it and what exactly did you see? We need the 411!
February 24th, 2006 at 9:30 pm
If those are 1″ strips (not flooring, but maybe table top), then the iPod looks to be 4.1 x 2.4, or the same size as G5 iPod. I’m just eyeballing it. Maybe someone can do an exact measure…
February 24th, 2006 at 9:39 pm
I don’t think it’s wood flooring, but a countertop or butchers block. Those pieces of wood are maybe 1″ wide.
February 24th, 2006 at 9:40 pm
If those boards are standard 2 1/4″ width the screen is about 9 inches diagonal. I don’t think this would classify as a video iPod, more like a tablet-like device. If it’s even real, that is. someone could have modded a mobile dvd player screen to look like that.
February 24th, 2006 at 9:43 pm
The floors in Apple are stone tile, not wood.
February 24th, 2006 at 9:44 pm
Of course, I’m assuming that the tablet would be pen based. Maybe not though.
This may be the device that Apple have been seeking the gestural touch screen patent for. Check out this link : http://guides.macrumors.com/Gallery_of_Gesture_User_Interface_Patent
February 24th, 2006 at 9:51 pm
“I do actually believe that this is what’s comming, but think about it. Wouldnt there be an Apple logo somewhere? I guess it’s not necesary. Hurry up 28th!”
There’s no Apple logo on any of the iPods. Besides, I don’t think there’s anything on the market that looks this sweet. Do you really need a logo to know where it came from? At this point in the game, EVERYONE know it probably came form apple.
February 24th, 2006 at 9:55 pm
ok well if this does come out on the 1st of april i wont buy it (not as in go to the store and purchase it, i mean accept that it is real) you know why becasue i think apple might be yanking are chain with a big april fools joke ???????????
February 24th, 2006 at 9:56 pm
Paul said:
“Wouldnt there be an Apple logo somewhere?”
Not if it’s anything like an iPod. Think about it: the iPod doesn’t need Apple’s logo on the front because (1) there’s more than enough room for it on the back, and (2) it would take up too much space on the front — at any size — and add unnecessary visual clutter. Even if it’s a tablet, the Apple logo is probably on the back, maybe laptop-style so it lights up from the LCD’s backlight. The product name would also fit quite nicely back there.
It just ocurred to me: didn’t Cap’n Steve make a crack about a “10-pound iPod with an 8-inch screen” or something like that in January? He’s probably laughing himself silly right now that nobody (or almost nobody) realized he was dropping hints! If that’s what he was doing, anyway.
February 24th, 2006 at 9:57 pm
There is no apple logo on the front of the ipod.. just on the back…
the logo might be on the back of this… considering its real
February 24th, 2006 at 10:01 pm
iPods have never had a logo on the front. Macs have.
Therefore this is an iPod not a tablet mac.
February 24th, 2006 at 10:14 pm
There isn’t an Apple logo on the front of the 5G iPod’s either - the logos are found on the back. Hard to say that the image is real, but I could be wrong.
February 24th, 2006 at 10:26 pm
Newton II… with HDD & HD video
February 24th, 2006 at 10:27 pm
it is NOT an imac screen. the clear polymer plastics around the edges of the imac screen are much much wider.
February 24th, 2006 at 10:28 pm
The Apple Logo Might Be On The Back Plus I Think This Ones A Touch Screen!

Was there an apple logo on the face of any ipod?
February 24th, 2006 at 10:44 pm
[…] So MacShrine, the source of yesterdays leaked photo of the supposed new iPod/iTablet, has apparently been bestowed, by a top secret and mysterious source, with a second, much clearer, image of the rumored device. […]
February 24th, 2006 at 10:45 pm
I think the picture was taken down! What happened?
February 24th, 2006 at 10:50 pm
If it’s real, why it doesn’t play anything? No interface?
February 24th, 2006 at 10:56 pm
Apple logo would be in the back, not engraved in the screen…
February 24th, 2006 at 11:00 pm
“Wouldnt there be an Apple logo somewhere?”
Not necessarily. If you look at the other iPods, the Apple logo only appears on the back (aside from showing up in the OS on the screen)
February 24th, 2006 at 11:00 pm
here’s another one:
http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/6413/ipodvideo7bb.jpg
February 24th, 2006 at 11:02 pm
Sheez, it’s not a floor, it’s a countertop– 1″ butcherblock to be precise–size is correct. It’s not a cinema display from a G4 either–metal bezel and size aspect/ratio to shadow on tabletop. It could be a ipod with a retouched “screen” but I can’t detect any evidence in Photoshop. Pretty tight if it’s a fake.
February 24th, 2006 at 11:05 pm
As far as the floor, not all wood floors are 8″ planks.. think of a basketball court. small thin strips.
As for the iPod. If it doesn’t come out on the 28th it will be out by summer for sure. When they did the 5G iPod i was like… damn that’s a small screen to watch video on… they need a bigger screen. Well hopefully it will on Tuesday!
Controls are probably a touchscreen wheel. the screen doesn’t look ‘glossy’.
let’s see…
February 24th, 2006 at 11:13 pm
If it was real apples legal team would be on this and it would be gone.
February 24th, 2006 at 11:16 pm
Morpheous, they started out wood, some were renovated, some were opened, now most are tile, but the backwoods ones (Glendale and Northridge as opposed to The Grove and Santa Monica, to use a local example) are still wood.
February 24th, 2006 at 11:30 pm
After poking around with this image in Photoshop with curve adjustments… if this is a fake it is a damn good one. there doesn’t appear to be any evidence of pasting or hand drawing and the shadow and tones of the wood appear consistent. The pixel pattern and spread on the black of the screen doesn’r look brushed or cloned either.
I’m a retoucher so I have a pretty good feeling about this one… i expect it to be gone by tomorrow due to Apple legal LOL…
here’s to hoping…
February 24th, 2006 at 11:42 pm
Floor plank s are 8” wide so that makes it 20”x 16”!!! You guessers are a real larf.
February 24th, 2006 at 11:52 pm
To those saying that if the picture were real, Apple’s legal folks would’ve rem’d it, reconsider: If Apple killed it, that would be pretty much admitting it IS …something. Which brings us to the REAL reason Apple isn’t worrying about it: Nobody knows what the freak it IS. Could be a new iPod. Could be a Tablet. (How big ARE those boards, anyway…) Or, it could just be an unattached screen from a G4 iMac. (But I’m going with Tablet… it’s all starting to add up.)

That one is a fake too. Notice how there is a crease in the middle of the LCD. It’s an iPod LCD doubled-up, the second one is rotated 180 degrees, notice the shadows in it
February 25th, 2006 at 12:12 am
Looks like 2 1/4″ flooring. If’t it’s real, it’s an iPod

Stop speculating!
February 25th, 2006 at 2:07 am
Incase someone missed the Update posted at the bottom of the article, this image is indeed a fake, and the author of it only created the image to show how easily someone could make a fake like this. According to his original post accompanying the image, it only took him around 5 minutes to create. Here’s the post, translated by Google: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=www.blogeek.ch/index.php?2006/02/24/32-ipod-video-photo-autre-photo-volee&langpair=fr|en&hl=en&ie=UTF8

Well, as I said, I was there today, GS Plaza off of RT 17 in NJ. Saw the device. It was out. Little bit of comotion near the back, store was surprisingly not busy. Couple of guys in the area by the checkout one blond girl. 1 guy was with his back turned, right hand had this exact device in it (as in the 1st and 2nd photos). Not sure what he was doing as it was coming out of a larger non-discript cardboard box. To the left were several mac book pro boxes. As I moved towards the back to look at the iSights, on the right hand side of the back of the store the guy jammed everything back into the box, and I was unable to see anything else. Worse, all the employees scrambled. I said “what was that?”, and I got no answer. Bought and iSight, asked again, got “Promotional Material.” as an answer. That was it.
Apple has been notorious for having product in stores days before launch. While not the recent trend it would explain the number of photos and my sighting today.

新iPodか!? Part. 2…
February 25th, 2006 at 7:45 am
Alright… Ive read alot of speculation here, and let me tell you this: A) Apple NEVER realeases its products to stores until the due-date, even if it is their own stores. They ship out when there released. B) This is one thing that will not catch on, because you can get an iBook for $1500 or so, or a vid. Ipod(5g) for $500…. this is going to cost like $800! Why not get yourself a laptop for a few more days work?
P.S., i own a 5G ipod, and am very happy, as well as ordering a Macbook pro…my baby.
February 25th, 2006 at 11:56 am
hey matts,
thanx for further explaining the situation! i can now safely say that you are completely full of sh!#. i dont completely doubt that this may be a real apple product, but, i do sincerely doubt that anything you say is is true. what a story you have goin’ on there…. and i’m from jersey too so i know about snow jobs! my god! the explatives i would love to be usin’ right now! it is people like you that ruin good debates like this for the rest of us…. i mean, come on, you expect us to believe that an apple store would have so many marketing accidents going on at one time? you expect us to believe that some random employee, genius or not, would have the brand new product out on a table/counter without manager interference…. why would a manager allow this to even leave the BOH? OK, so past that…… commontion in back (genius bar)…ok….couple of guys by checkout & 1 (token) blonde!!!… (thats in the front of the store right?… as in every apple store? So what is the connection…. where did you see it? let’s assume in the genius bar…. im going to guess you just snuck up on them! while they were opening top secret unreleased product boxes in the front of the house. did you ever see the B.ack O.f the H.ouse? it’s not that small. and thats where they fix a lot of apple products. so…. if they had somehting like this to set up, as u said previusly…. and some extra time as you say now… then i think it would be done in the back and not at the genius bar or anywhere near where a civilian could see it. thats just retarded! and i will now call u a scum-bag for attempting to pass this story on… for some of us its not a joke and we may actually care about the future of apple computer company!!!!
February 25th, 2006 at 12:22 pm
oh yeah, plus i just clicked on the note underneath the image…. “This image has been confirmed as a fake. But we do believe yesterdays image is the real deal. ” …… and watched as it morphed from that image to the video ipod which it obviously is. thanks though… try again later!
it just gets me so much more riled up to know that it is completely feasible for me to beat your ass. come on buddy, cough up the address! let me stop by! what kind of lonely bastard are you that you have to make up stories like that for? man, wait, i may be getting even more pathetic obsessing about it.
February 25th, 2006 at 12:33 pm
