You should know the drill by now. Yes these pictures were edited on an eMac, yes they were adjusted in size and had corners added to them (we like our curves) and yes we’re ready for the barrage of comments on how fake it is. Clicky for the fullsized image. Interesting to note that the model pictured is 40GB. We’ll get a 80GB top-end hopefully! The model number listed is A1185. If you have to comment, then please don’t just regurgitate what the previous commenter has said.

Looks Nice
If It is a fake then its a good fake
March 7th, 2006 at 7:56 pm
I don’t know… seems like the battery life on one of these would be horrible.
Still think its a fake, but hopefully not.
March 7th, 2006 at 8:09 pm
That looks sooooo real… Now I’d bet, maybe, 10 cents on it being real… But I hope it is anyway…
If thats a fake, it’s well done.
March 7th, 2006 at 8:18 pm
I gotta say it looks pretty damn good if it’s a fake…the only thing nagging me is the ray stems from the flash at the bottom of the ipod… they just seem too photoshop-ish. then again for all I know, we may just be looking at a slab of metal that was laser etched with all that info :p
March 7th, 2006 at 8:19 pm
Ummmmmm it looks so real it even looks a few mills fatter than the 30gb. BUT Apple have never put the name of a product after ipod have they, i think my mini only says ipod, the nano only says ipod i think so hy would they put AV on the back. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEESE BE REAL. If these pics macshrine have put up are fake i will be angry. Ill be sooo angry ill come to macshinre headquarters and protest by throwing water balloons at the window. (I wont really im from the UK)
March 7th, 2006 at 8:26 pm
Looking at that picture has all the shine and all the symbols that an iPod would have, but anyone who hasn’t seen this already should look at:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=8zjcQvBpNec&search=video%20ipod
It’s a fake video iPod video (or AV, your choice) movie in which the guy plays with light on the screen… It makes me wonder what is too hard to fake.
Also, could the DMCA be related to the fact that a scene from Ice Age 2? I know Apple and Pixar aren’t the same company, but might apple have copyright over the trailors for instance? Tell me if I’ve got my facts wrong, but couldn’t this be a carefully planned deception of some sort?
March 7th, 2006 at 8:40 pm
There is a solution: show us a video about this new ipod with a video demo…It’s easy!
March 7th, 2006 at 8:43 pm
another thing: the picture doesn’t worked
March 7th, 2006 at 9:03 pm
You guys clearly believe this is real
Have you tried something like CoconutIdentityCard 2 (google it) with the serial number? Or was the serial blurred when you got the photo?
March 7th, 2006 at 9:09 pm
To Dougall:
If the DMCA were in relation to Ice Age then it would have come from 20th Century Fox who produced this movie… Pixar has nothing to do with Ice Age….And Apple has no copyright on the movie trailers the studio which produced the movie would own any and all copyrights to the trailers.
As for being a fake it, if it is a fake they did a nice job. If this is real I’m glad I waited to buy my 60 gig iPod video, because I am buying one of these!!
March 7th, 2006 at 9:27 pm
Ok, sorry about my messy train of thoughts.
Father Ted:
Perhaps “iPod AV” apears because it’s such a leap to have an iPod that plays video…
I hope it’s real, but there are so many problems (on button, greasy screen, power consumption etc.)
Also about the DMCA (and lets hope this is more accurate than last time) if it’s a *copyright* violation, the copyright would have to be over the pictures - not the product. That means either that Apple anonymously sent these pictures or Apple took these picktures and someone else anonymously sent them. Again, tell me if I’ve got my facts wrong.

After a quick call with the Apple Store they have nothing with model number A1185 for what that’s worth.
March 7th, 2006 at 10:00 pm
how do you know that, ben?
March 7th, 2006 at 10:11 pm
Photo’s corrupt for me too, but I can see enough to raise one question: seems odd to me that all the items (that I can see, mind you) have an yellow-green sub-pixel fringe *except* for the “iPod AV,” which is neutral (in fact it seems to have a dark halo, even though the apple icon does not). Wish I could see below that to confirm my suspicion.
To state it more clearly: zoom in 500% and you’ll see that the lower right edge of the apple icon has a greenish fringe. Everything else does too, this shift is common for photos. But the name of the product lacks this shift–even the bit that overlaps the green-shifted reflection–which suggests a composite. Everything should have the same shift, moreso toward the outer edges of a photo, due to lens distortion.
My $0.02.
March 7th, 2006 at 10:26 pm
Somehow I don’t think saying Screw the DMCA is a great idea, but nice to see another pic.
March 7th, 2006 at 10:36 pm
any speculation on battery life?
March 7th, 2006 at 11:04 pm
Oh MacShrine, will you ever learn…
One of these days you’ll be walking down the street and BAM! hit by a car. The only description of the vehicle that hit you will be that it had a big Apple painted on the side, and a guy with a black sweater was flippin the bird out the back.
But I think this is real, I don’t care what all you people say.
March 7th, 2006 at 11:19 pm
looks good. i cant wait. and for those who think touch screen is a bad idea because of possible scratches on the screen, then you should take a look at the nintendo ds and sony cybershot n1. apple needs to catch up with the new technology and release this bad boy already.
March 7th, 2006 at 11:48 pm
david, http://devworld.apple.com/wwdc/index.html check that link and you will know
March 7th, 2006 at 11:53 pm
i really dont think the ipod touch screen would be such a problem too…they worked alongside sony to make the macbook pro, so i really think they can get help from sony to design a scratch resistant screen. Sony made three touchscreen based cellphones-p800, p900, and p910. Also, sony came out with the s710 cellphone which i heard had a scratch resistant screen because of a diamond coating…
also, phones like the treo and pdas dont seem to have such a problem
March 7th, 2006 at 11:56 pm
april 7-11? dont you mean august 7-11? that is when the wwdc conference is this year…kinda late, but yea….
March 8th, 2006 at 12:35 am
No, April. April 1 is Apple’s 30th Anniversary, so we can assume that SOMETHING will be announced then.
March 8th, 2006 at 12:37 am
Also, am I the only person who thinks the AV letters don’t quite have the same perspective as the iPod letters? They look a bit too straight, while the iPod letters are leaning to the left…
March 8th, 2006 at 12:41 am
i dont see anything wrong with the perspective…the only thing i see wrong is that that the iPod AV is not in my pocket…
March 8th, 2006 at 2:22 am
Interesting. Keep the pictures comin’!
March 8th, 2006 at 4:24 am
scamper:
I also can see this problem… But I’m not convinced it’s fake… I’m not saying it isn’t, just that it might not be anyway…
SMNMX:
I can’t see the perspective problem.
Zweben:
I’m inclined to agree that “Screw the DMCA” isn’t a good thing to say…
I think the DMCA is deffinately of some significance… If Apple can simply say “Take that off your website, it’s now copyright Apple” about something they didn’t create then what can’t they do?
Dougall
PS I’m using way too many “…”s, as always…
March 8th, 2006 at 5:01 am
If you’ve got nothing to hide, please post the unedited version.
And why is the serial number scratched out?
March 8th, 2006 at 6:50 am
Guess what, if anyone could find out which and where is this factory in China who is putting all the iPods together for Apple, one connection leads to another, it’s not that hard to find out. Well the person might need to work on the worker a bit since I am sure they have signed the confidentiality agreement
. So if the one in the photo is real, that means they are producing them in volume, not just a demo. Other wise it is a pretty good PS work and keep hoping :D.
March 8th, 2006 at 7:22 am
The closest current model is the Mac Mini G4 with A1103.
They probably put iPodAV on the back because it’s either a pre-production model or Apple wants to really distinguish this model from the others:
If you look at the iPod replacement cycles the 5th gen replaced the Photo and the Nano replaced the Mini. They didn’t keep either at the same time like the Mini/Nano combo (that I can remember). Since the 5th gen JUST came out they’re probably going to keep it around and still introduce this new model. They would want to distinguish this from the others.
Remember during the Keynote when Jobs emphasized that the 5th gen is called the “iPod” not “iPod video”? Hmm…
Thanks for the pics!!! Now I have to start paying off the credit card…
March 8th, 2006 at 8:14 am
I use photoshop professionally everyday, and I have to say I could photoshoped that in 10 minutes or less. A good photoshop artist will add all the little subtleties in lighting, perspective, ect.. so it is impossible to tell just from looking at a picture like that if it’s real or fake.
March 8th, 2006 at 9:19 am
VERY nice fake, actually, but scamper got it right. There’s no logical explanation why a camera chip wouldn’t display the greenish pixel fringe around the iPod-AV-element of the picture. When will you guys, who create such stuff, get a life? C’mon, stop wasting hours in front of your computer creating pictures of fake apple products. Do as you’re told:
http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/796.html
March 8th, 2006 at 1:54 pm
Everyone is saying how this is such a GREAT fake. In fact this is one of the easiest to accomplish. Here’s how I see it being made. If I get the time I’ll do one myself.
Photograph a regular iPod
Type out text in Myriad Pro (Apple’s font) in a light gray color
Rasterize
Select the text
Fill with monochromatic noise
Give it a slight gaussian blur
Contract the selection by 1 or 2 pixels
Invert selection
Another slight gaussian blur to blue the edges
March 8th, 2006 at 3:32 pm
I dont know but its the best fake if its fake!
Serial number convienetly scratch off or blurred but did u notice that it says 2006?
March 8th, 2006 at 5:10 pm
yes, i did notice it did say 2006. and a search for such a model number cant be found (smart move if its a fake). All the info seems to be there.
March 8th, 2006 at 6:04 pm
I think its real. Theres no way an ipod with 40gig capacity would be trademarked in 06′, The seiral # is blured to make sure apple or anyone else can’t link the ipod to a specific location or person. I agree the AV part of the text looks a little out of proportion but it all works. Except why would apple place the text agreeing with the dock connector it the screen is oriented to the side of the device. I may be wrong about these thoughts, so let me know.
March 8th, 2006 at 6:09 pm
Damn i saw this and like it looks freaking real . like fo realz.. damn i really hope it’s not a fake!! plz!! don’t let it be… but oh well if it is.. then it is .. if not then more viewin pleasure… for all of us!
wide screen porn baby.. yeah!!
March 8th, 2006 at 7:34 pm
Just think, when they make a landscape iPod, wouldnt they make a landscape back?
March 8th, 2006 at 7:37 pm
any ideia about how much it will cost?
March 8th, 2006 at 8:01 pm
chris and travis:
i thought about the whole landscape oriented thing too. but then i realized (pretty quick) that at the end of the day it’s an ipod. i dont think apple would change the main defining characteristics of the ipod, which is the orientation, along with the click wheel placement, dock connector location, etc.
another point, itll be the “ipod AV” meaning audio+video. when it will be used with audio, which i assume will be used more for than video, the traditional ipod layout is ideal.
March 8th, 2006 at 8:34 pm
I have to say it’s either real or the best fake I’ve seen. what throws my judgement off is that Hi-Fi box. These pics were received on the weekend right after they announced it. Either someone rushed to an Apple Store to grab one, or the photo was taken on the Campus. which would explain the DMCA letter (that would be Apple property)
On the other hand, the first image seems to indicate that’s it WAY much brighter that the nano. Like I said, could be real, could be fake.
And I also use Photoshop professionnally everyday. 10 minutes to “whip this up”? I dont think so.
March 8th, 2006 at 9:35 pm
to djsukebe: about that landscape thing again. I think apple will do a real video iPod sooner or later. But in my opinion it will be a separate line of devices. I dont think they will continue to make one iPod for all purposes (because it will do everything so lala and not one thing great). So if it is an iPod AV its the first of a new and separate breed. I think they will keep the normal iPod (with video) for people like me - music 90% of the time, photos and video 10% (really just to show off). And if it is going to be a worthy iPod AV it will have to be video first, music distant second. And then it will have a landscape back.
March 8th, 2006 at 10:58 pm
It is the obvious design, probably the first thing most product designers though of when they saw the first ipod is a borderless full screen ipod with a touch screen wheel.
I’m pretty sure apple has the sense to make this a reality.
And for the consumer another disposable gadget.
In 3 months when they are superseded by the version with an inbuilt camera and cookoo clock you can at least add some mortar stack them and make a video wall for your dog kennel.

March 9th, 2006 at 2:49 am
I wish they’d give up the shiny chrome and go with a brushed aluminum or something that can take some wear and tear. That would put a pretty big dent in the iPod accesory market though, wouldn’t it?
March 9th, 2006 at 2:52 am
I think you might be able to rule out mini apps like iTunes because that would be too much like a tablet or laptop and the HDD would have to be very large to take the place of your home pc. I think you’re right about the orientation staying the same, because it follows all other iPods. As for another line of products using video mainly and music secondly would have a short product line that would have to move over to a multi-use device like a small tablet. I may just be rambling unconnected but it all makes sense to have a full screen ipod for movies and tv.
I don’t think the iPod AV has anything to do with the Hi-Fi because thats used for music and you would be too close the the Hi-Fi to watch a movie and still enjoy the sound, so the Hi-fi is only for music. If you base the authenticity of the iPod AV on the fact that apple just came out with a sound system that dosen’t fit with the upcoming deivce means you’re ignoring the use and purpose of the Hi-Fi being only for music. It may still be possible that the iPod AV could fit into the connector of the Hi-Fi only allowing to to be used for music. talk to me people we need a thinktank and idea swap.
March 9th, 2006 at 2:56 am
I’m glad to see that this site would rather stifle free thought than have your own “scoop” tarnished by a differing opinion. I posted a comment with an image that illustrates how easy it is to achieve this effect. That comment was never posted. Why? Are you afraid that your site will suffer a hit in credibility? You’ve already had one of your “scoops” dispelled as a hoax. I’m not even saying that it is a hoax, I’m just saying that it’s an easy photo to fake. Post my link. It’s the right thing to do.
March 9th, 2006 at 5:58 am
you guys are going to crack up!!!
CHECK OUT THE iPOD NANO AV!!!!
http://www.skattertech.com/2006/03/the-ipod-nano-av/
i think apple should make one of these 2! lol
March 9th, 2006 at 6:33 am
Pay attention to the reflection on the back of the ipod.
That’s an ipod hi-fi for sure… (the LHS of it)
What conspiracy are they up to?
March 9th, 2006 at 6:41 am
i think the people who see a sort of mini tablet comp in the future make one single mistake. Its not Apple. I think they trive for the simple thing. So a full blown mini tablet would make what? Some sort of PDA! But if you look at the declining market for that its clear that Apple wont want to go there. If they continue in there (post-Newton) tradition of simple things who are great at what they do, they will make a mainly-video device. Therefore i find the name iPod AV - name not right. It should be something like iPod Movie, Cinema or Video.
March 9th, 2006 at 11:55 am
AL I think you’re correct in stating that the LHS of the Hi-Fi in the reflection of the iPod. This is an interesting clip: http://youtube.com/watch?v=B1H_d_7CVPc
And Chris, you’re on the money when it come to simplicty and Apple. It’s like have on your person a laptop, cellphone, iPod, bluetooth headset, all at the same time. It’s too many thing a person must choose to use. That makes thing complicated. Apple is not complicated. Although apple has many of the devices I just listed, makeing one more reduntant or closly similar device would put people in a hard position.

March 9th, 2006 at 5:03 pm
For all those people questioning the serial number being scratched out. Of course, if it’s real, the serail number will tell who had this in their hands. Now, being fake or not fake, I really don’t know it anymore. I was convinced about fakes being real, and thought real leaked ones were fake. But I think, this one is real. The lower text is what convinces me. But April will tell, I guess
March 9th, 2006 at 7:50 pm
The EMC number (2465) seems out of whack, a little too high for now. I would expect to see numbers in that range in 1-2 years.
March 9th, 2006 at 11:28 pm
i think the “ipod av” name hits it right on the head. the perfect balance between portable audio entertainment as well as portable video entertainment. if they were gonna call it the ipod video or ipod movie then it would suggest the device as being mainly a video player, which it is not. eventually it will replace the 5th gen later on.
if they were to release a seperate device that was mainly a video player then they probably wouldnt use the ipod name. but that would probably be a dumb move to make a seperate video player when they can intergrate it into the ipod.
March 10th, 2006 at 1:55 am
What exalty do teh EMC numbers mean. I looked at other ipod back and the emc numbers are around 1990 and up. and i notice that some of the orignal ipods *5gig* had a differnet font on the back. And also the text on the back bottom of the ipod only takes two or three lines rather than foru or five with previous models. I think the thing is real. Honestly I think everything fits too well.
March 10th, 2006 at 8:13 pm
EMC is a unique identifier given to each Apple hardware product. The numbers are currently in the 2100s for the new Mac models. They do seem to be assigned in order.
iPod AV has just been admitted as a fake. The hoaxers have posted higher-resolution versions at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=185894
March 10th, 2006 at 8:23 pm
cheesemaster:
lol. thats funny. those “hoax pictures” are obviously fake. do you really think someone can get the exact reflection and exact U2 Photo that is on the ipods shown on the apple website, and reproduce that onto one’s own ipod and put it in that context.
even the “5″ on the “2005″ is a different font and color
Look at the photos and think about it before assuming someone made fake ipod av photos.
March 10th, 2006 at 10:04 pm
actually i am quite relieved that theyre fake. i just bought a new 60gig ipod (somehow, the library is always getting larger ;-). i´d hate for apple to release a droolworthy ipod (exactly the dimensions of a 5G iPod ut with touchscreen 4 inch display) just now. but i fully expect them to do so for the holiday season. right now people will have to spend there money on the new intel macs ( i will only let go of my powerbook the day it dies) . poor apple.
March 11th, 2006 at 1:02 am
That iPod looks a little bit to thick to be for real… I hope I’m wrong.
March 11th, 2006 at 2:20 am
chris:
to clear up my post. the “original” pictures that supposedly prove to show that the ipod av is fake, ARE fake. they were photoshopped to look like an ipod 5th gen.
March 11th, 2006 at 3:44 am
This all sucks, lets just hush hush until April time.
March 11th, 2006 at 8:14 am
There will be 42 inches worth of candles on Apple’s 30th anniversary Mac.
March 11th, 2006 at 8:47 am
djsukebe: okay, okay, i concur. the “original” pictures are fake. after a closer look i think so too. but doesnt that just mean, that the real picture of the ipod av s back could be just as fake? i stand by my post. i think that the ipod av (or whatever) comes to early, if it comes on april 1st. the bandwidth for the content is not yet there, the battery will be down before the first movie is over. it will come sooner or later and it be a separate line of devices, meaning there will always be an ipod for the people who use ist like a classic “walkman” on the road (like me).
March 12th, 2006 at 10:10 pm
Macshrine really should pay their bills on time. Thats the real reason the website went down.

“Apple iPod AV Connection Kit” Its fake. Would apple really name the new ipod after one of their acsserosises. Unless the name of this kit hints at something….. Apple Ipod AV… Conncetion kit….. then the pictures could be real but would they do that?????
