Development teams inside Apple have been scrambling to fix errors in Apple’s latest Mac OS X update. The 10.4.7 update which was released just a few days ago seems to have serious issues that affect a substantial number of Mac users. The most common problem appears to be with the updated USB drivers. Users are reporting that their systems cannot recognise external hard drives and in some cases the keyboard or mouse as well. Also many users have downloaded a corrupted version of the update from Apple which stalls at 7% installation. It is not clear wether Apple will wait to fix these problems with Mac OS X 10.4.8 or release a quick fix using aspects of the new code. If you are affected the USB problems we recommend you purchase a USB to Firewire adaptor, users on the official Apple forums have stated that this works.

My power pc eMac also experienced problems after the installation of the 10.4.7 update. The Safari web browser constantly ‘unexpectedly quit’ when it was open. Secondly, when Dashboard was opened, a dialog box appeared on the screen saying it had ‘unexpectedly quit’. Thirdly, the desktop has been screwed up as well. =’( I cannot double click on any of the folders on the desktop to open them, nor can I move them with my mouse. In other words I can’t do anything with it since this update. I had to reinstall OS X from my installations discs and now my OS is back to 10.4 . Just like the other update before for OS X Tiger, this is absolutely SHIT!!!! -.-”

My iMac G5 had numerous problems after installing the update.
–Several login apps would not function: ClearDock, Windowshade, YouControl.
–Multiple apps would not launch–they dock icon would bounce continuously but never complete the launch. Affected apps included the login apps above, MS RDC, all Omni apps (I have GrafflePro, OutlinerPro, Disk Sweeper, & Dictionary), and Firefox.
–Most Apple apps launch, but both Keynote and Pages show one bounce in the dock and immediately close.
–Pathfinder 4 would launch but could not display the contents of any directory.
Permissions showed everything OK, as did Disk Utility. For all of the above apps, reinstalling the app restored normal functionality (except for Pages and Keynote–I need to find my iWork disc). I suspect I’ll find more apps with launch problems as I get to less-frequently used applications.

Sice my 10.4.7 upgrade random applications have paused for as long as 45 seconds, then resumed like nothing happened. This is quite annoyinh, but the applications recover so I don’t crash or loose data.

I installed the Mac OS X 10.4.7 update in both my computers, IBook G4 and my MiniMac and since then I am experiencing problems opening PPS files (Power Point). My MiniMac will not open them and the IBook freezes when they finish and I have to press the off button because nothing else seems to work, not even the “force quit”. Has anybody found a solution to these annoying problems? What are they waiting for in Apple to find a solution?

I have installed 10.4.7 on my tibook and now neither safari or mail will open they consistently ‘quit unexpectedly’ on opening.
Disk utility reports no permisson problems and running the book in target mode and doing a repair disk shows no problems.
This update has f*cked my ti book completely. nice one apple.

I have had my entire iPhoto library get corrupted using 10.4.7. I’ve also noticed that it is generally unstable, with app hang ups as well. I’m using a 2.0ghz 20in iMac G5.
There is something crook with this update - I’ve already seen appleinsider note that 10.4.8 builds have been released to developers - very quickly after this last update. Whenever I have seen developer seeds released so quickly, it has been in response to an unstable update. At least Apple get on the case straight away. I am reverting to 10.4.6 by downloading the old update from Apple’s website.

I also can no longer connect my PowerBook to my iMac as a firewire drive. My Firelite external Firewire drive connects only randomly as well. 10.4.7 just will not see external drives. Very frustrating. Also, I had the same problem with the death of Safari on the PowerBook as noted above.

My firewire camera (on a microscope) worked great until I upgraded to 10.4.7.
Now instead of beautifil color images I get a saturated binary image.
Black and white only not even greyscale. What did apple do to the firewire acccess?

Ohh… That update made hell of a mess. Everything froze. After two force boots I’m getting kernel panic and open firmware. Thanks Apple.

I have an external firewire hard drive (Western Digital) as well as Que! Fire cd burner. Hard drive works fine, burner rarely boots up. Not sure what the issue is

I have manually updated since, but some functions of my network won’t work, apps that need to check via network, or the mac software update don’t function at all.
