Core 2Apple is preparing to update their MacBook Pro range in Germany next week. The Photokina event on September 25th will also see the launch of Aperture 1.2. The new MacBook Pros will come in 2.33GHz and 2.16GHz models. There are rumors of a 1.83GHz powered 12″ model, but we cannot confirm them at this time. Apple will then again update ALL their Macs in Q1/2 next year to the upcoming second-wave of Merom which is due for launch next April… Which is when Leopard is due to launch… See what Apple’s doing? (Steve is oh so clever). We’ll keep you updated as ever.

Update: Sorry, the date for Photokina is 25th.

isn’t the photokina event scheduled for September 25th?

  3. ompaa Says:

  6. MACNOTES.DE - RANDNOTIZEN AUS DER MAC-OSPHÄRE » Archiv » Neuvorstellungen zur photokina? Says:

[…] Laut MacShrine steht ein Update des MacBook Pros zum Start der photokina am 25. September in Köln an. […]

    That’s oh so cool!

i just cancelled my macbookpro computer order… hopefully these Merom chipped pros come out real soon! Can’t wait! Does anyone know if they might bring back the firewire800?

  9. Photokina’da yeni MacBook Pro beklentisi - Mac Dünyası Says:

  10. wackybit Says:

nick: It’s probably going to have firewire 800. When Apple announced the MBP back in Jan and didn’t have it, they said they were rushing the MBP to the market so firewire 800 got left out. They also added that firewire 800 will be present in the next version of the MBP.

  11. Terrell Says:

Hopefully Those Macbook Pro 12″ would arrive. Apple made a mistake. Professionals dont want to hug around a massive 15″s & 17″s they want stuff for presentations, word pressessing , web surfing and email, and something small and light (not that 15″ is not light but something lighter).

I dont want to see a guy in a suit using those white or black macbooks, they’re too much for students.

They can ditch the optical drive if you ask me but i know others want them.
either way 12″ widescreen or not, I want it.

  12. Ade Says:

Man, I so so so so so want a 12″ MacBook! I’m still using my 12″ PowerBook and keep stopping myself from buying a 15″ MacBook Pro as I just love the form factor of small laptops. The Sony Vaio’s are cool in size and I just hope that Apple listens to the people who felt left out in the gap between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro. Terrell, fully agree with you about the MacBooks as well - I was tempted at one point to buy one, but I love my PowerBook too much to take what I considered to be a step down visually. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed and hope that our hopes are not dashed again :)

  13. Alex Bischoff Says:

    Wouldn’t that be on the 26th? http://www.photokina-cologne.com/

  14. Luigi Says:

Alex - Apple event is the day before.

Professionals dont want to hug around a massive 15″s & 17″s they want stuff for presentations, word pressessing , web surfing and email, and something small and light (not that 15″ is not light but something lighter).

Perhaps you don’t want a massive machine. Video and motion graphics pros, like myself, do need large screens and more features. I’ll admit the 17″ is waaay too big for coach on aircraft, but it’s sure great when doing mobile editing. It’s not for you - it’s for us.

  16. Bryan Says:

Terrell- You’re the first person I’ve heard say that “Professionals dont want to hug around a massive 15″s & 17″s…” Macs are geared towards professionals who work in the entertainment buisness or advertising, something in the multimedia business. You’re right about the 12” books being used for something quick like a prsentation or word processing, but why not buy a cheaper laptop that does that?

The reason they stopped making the Macs in 12” versions in the first place is because peolpe didn’t want to spend thousands of dollars for a tiny laptop.

I hope that they do update to the Core Duo II on the 25th, and I hope even more that it won’t be months until they come out either. It’s about time they put some distance between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro, besides a backlit keyboard and screen size.

  17. Uisce Says:

I’m holding my breath for a Merom MBP. Hopefully I won’t start turning blue-screen-of-death before the 25th!

  18. charlie Says:

As a professional that travels a lot, mosty to Asia - I take my 12″ PowerBook on every trip. Although the 15″ or 17″ is great for editing, for me its just to much to carry around every airport. The lower end 12″ laptop model does not really cut it for my work. So perhaps its a niche market, but given my travel habits, I’d purchase the 12″ MacBook Pro. If Apple does not offer this model during the next round of updates, I will purchase the 15″ Mac. At work, its a different issue - large monitor et al. cheers…

  19. Jenn Says:

It’s such a relief to have people going through the same issue as i am about the 12″ powerbook/macbook pro. For all the aforementioned reasons, I’d love the 12″ in silver, even if it was a macbook. I could care less about the “pro” being attached. I just want a small computer that looks professional. Unfortunately i feel like a college student who should be going to their dorm to do homework on that white computer. and who wants a black computer when you can get that from any “other” company? *frustrated but hopeful for the 12 inch”

  20. J Says:

is this for real? coz i’ve been hearing this since August? but it never comes true…

  21. Ole Says:

I also will order the macbook pro 12″ the day the announce it. You hear me Steve Jobs? There’s definitely a market for it!

  22. Ross Shannon Says:

Everybody asking for a 12” MacBook Pro in this thread is not really explaining why the MacBook isn’t ideal. The only significant difference between them power-wise is in graphics capability. And christ, “I could care less” means the exact opposite of what you’re trying to say.

  23. Steve Jobs Says:

    Yeah I hear you,
obviosuly it’ll be a 13 inch though, all the notebooks are widescreen these days fool.
And to those complaining as if the 13 inch macbook would be fine apart from it’s colour. didn’t cha notice it has ONBOARD graphics ? a silver macbook would still have a shitty slow superdrive and wouldnt be able to run aperture or motion, so keep that in mind when you go claiming you’d be happy if it were just silver. Geez..
    Anyway I gotta go

    Steve

  24. Why the macbook isn't ideal Says:

    The macbook isn’t ideal because:

    1. Too big (yes you read correctly)
    2. No dedicated graphics
    3. No FW800 (yes I know the 12″ PB doesn’t have this either)

  25. More Reasons for 12" MBP Says:

There are other reasons a Macbook doesn’t cut it

besides some other reasons that were covered an MBP is always a bit more powerful (a dedicated graphics card doesn’t just mean you can play games, it means there’s much less load on the CPU and main ram - graphics display is a big enough bottleneck in performance).

And another very good reason is durability! A metal case is stronger, more scratch and impact resistant, and just plain durable- If you walk through a big Apple store (5th Ave in NY for example) you realize that it’s like a fast testing facility you see in commercials - (where a bunch of robot feet stomp on a mattress or something). The plastic macbooks look a bit… worn, they have little scratches and the track pads are worn.

I don’t know about the reports of peeling or discoloration on macbooks that I’ve seen, but the heat dissipation of metal mbp’s also means they will likely survive longer without frying some little component.

  26. chandiam@jmu.edu Says:

where is it??? Why isnt it up yet on the Apple website? What time is that thing being hosted for the release of the Merom?

  27. James Says:

    Looks like it hasnt happened…

  28. Gaspar Says:

What I’m really hoping for is a consumer MacBook (non pro) with some sort of dedicated graphics option. I’d be happy with the 13.3″ form factor, but the only thing stopping me from getting the current 13.3″ (besides lack of funding) is the intergrated graphics card. I love the black Macbook. Gah. Oh well.. Let’s see what happens. I might actually end up getting a MBP anyhow because I really doubt Apple is gonna do this. I’ve had a 12″ iBook G3 “snow” since its introduction, and I’m really ready for a new machine.

  29. o'brien Says:

I have 2 weeks left until i need to buy… i’ve holded on as long as i could… where is it… do any of these rumours ever pan out?…

  30. DCN Says:

Ya, i needed the MBP 2 weeks ago for the beginning of school, and i was telling myself to wait for Core 2 Duo on Sept 25. That is today. Where is my Merom MBP?!?!

Seriously, if anyone knows any info please post it up as i need the computer for school badly, and i dont want them to come out with brand new C2D MBPs like a week after i buy!

  31. JHolko Says:

Dam.. Im really in the poo now.. I need a new laptop ASAP and had my hopes pinned on a new mac book Pro and like the above poster dam if I am going to be the current one when its overdue for update.

C’mon Steve! Give us the new Mac Book Pro with Duo 2 - we know you have them sitting in the warehouse ready to ship!!!!

  32. A Cool Guy Says:

Ya me as well…. since the 17″ book came out and i heard about the intel core 2 was supposed to be out in July, logically i waited to purchase one. Now im still waiting. Yesterday was the 25th of september, and i need this for school, and i leave in 3 days. I am so close to ordering an alienware, but i really want the macbook pro! It seems like everyone keeps saying its coming out just around the corner, and it never does…so when????AHHHH

  33. Waiting for Merom Says:

I waited for Sept 25th too and no new macbook pros. I believe they are just sitting in a warehouse but we may not see them till around Thanksgiving. Check out the following articles: http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/08/11/apple_macbook_to_get_merom/ also see: http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=34222 (note the correction) & also reference http://forums.appleinsider.com/showthread.php?threadid=66899

  34. JHolko Says:

Well.. there are some very contradictory rumours there…..

The way I currently see it is:
    1. There is a shortage of the Duo 2 chips and apple doesnt have enough to ensure there isnt a shortage if they release their updated mac books now.

    Or

    2. They are sitting in the warehouse ready to ship - but they want to flog off their remaining stock of current gen. mac books first

    Or

    3. They really are not ready - in which case we wont see them before 07.

Either way it sux. And I will continue to live without one until they are updated to Duo 2 - the current offerings are just to close to the end of their life cycle to purchase now… Its the point of no return!

  35. callo Says:

hello..I’m waiting for new macbook pro….can you give me a date????

  36. Andreina Cecilio Says:

  37. Horsa Amadeo Says:

  38. Henry Says:

I’ve more or less been doing nothing to speak of. I just don’t have much to say these days, not that it matters. Basically not much noteworthy going on worth mentioning. So it goes.,
