We were pretty good last year with the predictions, this time we’ve got hold of exactly what Steve will be showing off at the Keynote next week. Sadly it seems that Apple has hyped this event up way too much, unless there have been last minute changes (like last year)…
The iTV will be shown off and announced for sale within the week with some early stock available in Apple Stores. It will feature Apple’s new Airport Extreme 802.11n. Mac OS X 10.4.9 will quietly be released so that Macs can interact with the new iTV. The iTunes Store will get new movie studios but it is still looking like the videos will be the same resolution as currently. Mac mini will be updated to new Core 2 Duo processors and will include the new 802.11n. Mac OS X Leopard will be shown off again with new features such as the ZFS filesystem. It will be announced that it is compatible and will run smoothly on Macs from the iMac G3 to the Powerbook G4 to the MacPro Quad. Updated MacPro and Xserves will be announced with the new Intel 8-core processors and there will be BTO options for Bluray and HD-DVD and will ship in early March with the release of Leopard (which supports these two new formats natively).
Update: Seems already there have been changes. AppleInsider is now reporting that the iTV will be delayed until late Jan/early Feb. Let’s hope Apple has some backup products to get this event going.

It is my understanding that he 802.11n specification has not been finalized, therefore it is very unlikely Apple will release a product boasting 802.11n capability. That does not mean they might not have the hardware ready to go.

Jared - It is not finalized yet, that is in April next year. But it has been basically “locked” so there will be no major changes to it. Hence why manufacturers have started to put them in their products. Apple has put 802.11n in the latest MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

Does that mean Leopard will be shipped in this early march?
And what about the new MacBookPro.

Won’t they cover some of the new features in iLife ‘07? Looking back at past events, I would that to happen at Macworld.

I find your “Apple has hyped this event up way too much…” comment puzzling. Are you referring to the graphic on the Apple home page? Perhaps the unusual “sneak peek” at the iTV back in September. If so, I hardly think that these are part of Apple “hyping up” MacWorld. If anything, it’s rumor sites and Apple nuts (myself included) that are guilty of such hype. Never have I seen so much crazed rumor-mongering over phantom products (iPhone, video iPod, Macbook Thin, etc…) that should they not come to fruition, will leave the Mac fanbase in a post-MacWorld pall. Even so, if your keynote list proves to be true, it doesn’t seem to be a total bust.

They advertise 802.11N as Pre N, but there should be no drastic changes. I personally like the idea of an octocore processor.

The 802.11n also made it into the latest iMacs as well.

Erh, sorry, but Leopard requires G4 to run…and their plan is certainly not to tell people to use the old platform but move people over to their new products…
I stopped using my PowerBook G4 400MHz cause it was painfully slow on the web, it had a gig ram and 80GB HDD…but it was slow, youtube was sluggish, every app launched for many seconds and digg homepage stuck safari for over a minute till it rendered…

I have a clamshell iBook G3 and Leopard runs just fine on it…

Well, Apple promised to keep on providing support for PowerPC processor users for a considerable time until they can make their transition too. Thus Apple is going to offer Leopard with support for G3, G4 and for sure G5.

[…] As we said earlier this week, Apple has as expected updated the Airport Extreme to 802.11n and a new sleek look ala Apple TV but in white. It’s available right now for $179.00. It can support up to 50 users and of course have the USB port for sharing printers wirelessly. […]
