We were just wondering if anyone outside America is thinking of purchasing an iPhone next week just to use as an iPod and video player? Those in Europe will probably have to wait until Christmas to get their hands on the iPhone.

I’m waiting in line for that purpose. I received a large sum of money to ship an iPhone over to a guy in france. paid in full 3 times the ammount the phone is actually retailing for.

why would a buyer outside of the u.s. be limited to an ipod and video viewer? if the iphone has a slot for a SIM card, as many reports say it does, why should anyone anywhere not be able simply to insert their SIM card and use the iphone as a proper mobile phone? am i missing something? has apple announced that the phone would be sold “locked”, and prohibited to use any carrier besides AT&T/Cingular?

i’ve been waiting for iphone since the date it was announced and now i have to wait for another 6 months i mean what the hell…..if some one knows that is it locked or not, coz then i’ll be sure and will buy the fone so what its in america if it works outside america i’ll definately get it by any means !

I live in Egypt, dying to get an iPhone! but i know that iPhone has a sim lock, if u purchase it in the states than u need to pay an additional cost to At&T to open the sim lock, but from what i heard, even after u do so u cant use all the features on the iPhone anyway. You can only use it to make a phone call.
You cant use iTunes, wi-fi , etc ….
Anybody who could confirm this please please please reply me ….

If you don’t “register” it on iTunes, you can only use it as an iPod effectively…

hi..i’m confused… Marwan says it works just fine, and waleed says it doesn’t. By the way, it might be the software, or rather firmware that your Iphone is using. Which type are you using Marwan? Because I know that after people started unlocking it, apple came out with a new firmware that screws up the phone when unlocked. How much did you pay Waleed? I know mine is about $420 with tax.

Hi! I just got my Iphone and it works PERFECTLY. As soon as I put in my MTN card, the prepaid one, i made a call and voila! It works! Rash, there is just one thing you should be careful off, they are making alot of copies that aren’t the original APPLE iphone. They look alot alike, but they are not the originals. My mom bought it for $450, and another 40 to unlock, but it was worth it. It’s the 4gb model. Where are they selling the 8gb? I’d prefer that much more than the 4!!
