The Beat Goes On New iPod nano
Sep 05

I bought a song for $0.99 and I want to use THAT as my ringtone not buy the song again to use as my ringtone. Anyway - 500,000 songs will be available for this new “Ringtone Maker” feature in iTunes. A bell icon will be next to all the songs in iTunes compatible with this. They last for 30 seconds. Which again brings the subject of why we’re paying the price of a full song AGAIN for just 30 seconds? Did Apple think this one out?

I’m pretty certain the problem is with the media companies - they consider a ringtone to be a profit engine, therefore they’re not going to let them be “given away”, even if you’ve already bought/licensed the music.

In agreement with Damien - remember that ringtones typically cost at least $2 through most cell phone companies. At least iTunes lets you pick which 30 seconds, AND if you already own the song (through Apple, of course) you don’t have to pay the full $2.
