iPhone out in UK and Germany tomorrow! Mac OS X 10.5.1 update released
Nov 11

Seems Apple hyped up the European launch a bit too much. The iPhone which launched on Friday sold just 10,000 in Germany and the UK sales look set to be similarly miserable. We don’t know about Germany, but here in the UK there was no promo for the iPhone at all. No TV ads, no posters, nothing in newspapers. The only way you could possibly know that the iPhone was coming out was either if you knew about it already or had passed by an Apple Store, O2 or Carphone Warehouse. Shame really.

Update: Okay, we take that back as we just saw an advert now on Channel 4 during The Simpsons for the iPhone.

Not sure how sales were, but not strictly true that there were no TV ads - to be (scarily) precise, the 3rd of November at 17:10 on channel “Dave”, during a rerun of Top Gear.

Unfortunate if it hasn’t been as successful as in the US - I’ve heard plenty of people talking about it, but perhaps that’s just the kind of people I’m around.

I saw a few TV commercial in Germany, but no posters/placards or something like that.

Anyway, the tariffs/plans are much too expensive for Germany. The vast majority of the Germans are misers. Selling a 50 EUR plan in Germany is pretty hard, so I’m not surprised that the iPhone floped.

Not sure what you are basing the sales flop on… Its all over the news that the iPhone is the fastest selling gadget in the UK today.
10,000 sales in Germany only… yeah only in the first few hours after a midnight launch. No wonder this site gets not hits

In Germany I saw an iPhone spot on TV although I almost never watch TV. The media hype (at least in the german web) took place, when the phone was released in the US.

The people I know don’t want T-Mobile contracts so they either have importet thier phones and hacked them or wait for the french contract free phone.

The majority isn’t excitet about the iphone but everyone who sees it in action (especially older people) is instantly amazed.
