Mac miniApple today updated their Mac mini range to sport new processors, specifically the 1.83GHz or 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo’s which make these little Macs 39% faster than their previous incarnation. They are available now and come complete with iLife ‘08 starting at $599.

Update: Thanks to Austin again for reporting this.

AppleInsider believes so, *sniff*:

Mac miniWhether Apple will squeeze another revision from the mini, and how long it plans to allow existing models to linger, are both unclear. But as the extended Memorial Day break dawns upon us, the point being driven should be clear: Ladies and gentlemen, AppleInsider believes in all sincerity that the Mac mini is dead.

Mac miniPaul over at LimePrint has found that the new Mac minis (announced on Tuesday) can possibly have their CPUs upgraded. Paul claims “the use of a socket for the CPU rather than having it soldered-on, unreplaceable” will let you change the processor. It all sounds logical but we wouldn’t suggest burning up your new Mac mini yet. Paul is going to look over the Intel whitepapers and see if the Mac mini cooling can handle higher processor speeds. Rather him than us!

Just a few minutes ago Apple announced a new Intel Mac mini. There are 2 models, an Intel Core Solo (1.5GHz) and Intel Core Duo (4.8x-5.5x faster than PowerPC). Exact same form factor so no built-in iPod dock. The redesigned Mac mini features gigabit Ethernet, a total of four USB 2.0 ports, analog and SPDIF audio outputs and more. You can hook the thing up to your TV! The Mac mini also comes with Front Row software and 6-button remote (the IR sensor is to the right of the disc slot). Front Row has a new feature using Bonjour that allows you to access remote iTunes libraries and remote iPhoto libraries. They’re both available now for $599 and $799 respectively. Go grab ‘em!
